EACOP Meets with University Guild Leaders from Makerere and Victoria Universities
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) hosted 111 Student Guild leaders from Makerere and Victoria Universities at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. This gathering aimed to forge lasting connections between EACOP and Uganda’s academic institutions.
The event featured notable industry experts, including Victoria University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Augustine, who presented a compelling global perspective on the oil and gas sector. His presentation highlighted a critical statistic: over 4.5 billion people worldwide currently lack adequate access to energy, emphasizing the urgent need for energy development initiatives.
Our Deputy Managing Director, John Bosco Habumugisha, opened the session with an inspiring address, emphasizing the importance of academic dedication and professional focus. His message set a positive tone for the day’s proceedings and resonated strongly with the student leaders present. The forum, structured within EACOP’s stakeholder engagement framework, provided students with detailed insights into:
- Project objectives and current initiatives
- Career opportunities in the oil and gas sector
- Environmental stewardship commitments
- Economic benefits for local communities
This engagement serves as part of EACOP’s broader strategy to promote transparency and maintain open communication with key stakeholders. The initiative specifically addresses the need to develop local talent and expertise in Uganda’s growing oil and gas sector, while simultaneously dispelling misconceptions about youth exploitation in the industry.
The interactive session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where students actively participated in discussions about the project’s impact and opportunities. This dialogue strengthened the relationship between EACOP and the academic community while demonstrating the organization’s commitment to fostering local talent and sustainable development in Uganda.
Through this initiative, EACOP continues to demonstrate its dedication to building capacity among Uganda’s youth and ensuring transparent communication about opportunities within the oil and gas sector.
