EACOP AND TANZANIA WILDLIFE AUTHORITY SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON CONSERVATION AND BIODIVERSITY PROTECTION

EACOP Ltd and the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the National College of Tourism in Dar es Salaam, marking a significant milestone in conservation efforts related to the game reserves that the EACOP pipeline crosses in Tanzania. This agreement reaffirms EACOP’s commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation, and responsible development in alignment with national and international environmental standards.

This MoU establishes a framework for specific conservation projects that will be undertaken in TAWA-managed game reserves that are crossed by the pipeline. It outlines a cooperative approach between EACOP and TAWA to enhance research, monitoring, and conservation initiatives aimed at protecting Tanzania’s rich biodiversity. Through this agreement, both parties will work together to strengthen conservation strategies, improve natural resource management, and enhance stakeholder engagement in protected areas.

The conservation of game reserves along the pipeline route is a crucial step toward meeting environmental offsets required by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards. These standards guide EACOP’s commitment to achieving No Net Loss and Net Gain in both Critical and Natural Habitats. By aligning with these principles, the MoU ensures that biodiversity protection remains at the forefront of project implementation.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, the Ministry of Energy, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Tanzania Wildlife Authority. Their collective input ensures that conservation efforts are integrated into the broader national strategy for wildlife protection and sustainable development.

Through this partnership, EACOP and TAWA reaffirm their dedication to responsible environmental management, demonstrating that development and conservation can coexist. The MoU will guide long-term conservation planning, ensuring that Tanzania’s wildlife and natural habitats are preserved for future generations while facilitating the responsible execution of the EACOP Project.
