EACOP equips Youth from Project-affected households with Vocational skills in Hoima, Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, Kikuube, and Mubende District.

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd continues to make strides in empowering communities along its pipeline route through its Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). On December 16 and 17, 2024, EACOP facilitated a major milestone in Kakumiro and Mubende districts by celebrating the successful skilling of youth from project-affected households. This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable livelihoods and enhancing the resilience of these communities.

As part of the RAP’s Livelihood Restoration Program, EACOP has equipped 1,020 youth from project-affected households with practical vocational skills designed to boost their economic independence. These youth, including 249 young women, were enrolled in esteemed institutions such as St. Simon Peter’s Vocational Institute in Hoima, St. Peter’s Vocational Training Institute in Mubende, Buhimba Technical Institute in Kikuube, and Millennium Business School in Hoima District.

The training program, spanning three months of intensive skill-building followed by a one-month internship, offered diverse disciplines to address market needs. Participants acquired expertise in areas such as:

  • Tailoring & Garment Design
  • Welding
  • Building and Construction
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Mechanics
  • Hairdressing
  • Catering
  • Electrical Installations

EACOP’s initiative aims to empower these youth by providing them with starter kits tailored to their respective vocational programs. These tools and equipment will enable graduates to embark on their journeys toward self-employment or gainful employment opportunities.

The program also shows EACOP’s commitment to restoring and enhancing the livelihoods of households impacted by the pipeline project. By equipping participants with marketable skills, the company helps ensure they can adapt to challenges associated with resettlement while leveraging available household resources for sustainable growth.

The event highlighted the achievements of the trained youth and their potential to contribute meaningfully to their communities. It also served as a platform to reiterate EACOP’s dedication to fostering socio-economic development in the districts of Hoima, Kakumiro, Kikuube, Kyankwanzi, and Mubende.

As these skilled graduates enter the workforce, they symbolize the positive impact of EACOP’s initiatives on individuals and families along the pipeline route. This endeavor reflects the company’s broader mission to balance infrastructure development with meaningful community engagement and support.
