EACOP Joins the Call to Action Ahead of the 6th SDG Run

On November 26, 2024, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) participated in a press briefing for the upcoming 6th SDG Run, scheduled for December 1, 2024, under the theme “Partnerships for the Goals.” Speaking at the briefing, our Deputy Managing Director, John B. Habumugisha, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability and community-driven initiatives that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of its contribution to this year’s SDG Run, EACOP donated $5,000 toward the establishment of regional tree nurseries, which aim to raise 20 million indigenous trees for reforestation. During the press briefing, Our Deputy Managing Director JB. Habumugisha handed over a symbolic cheque to the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, who is also the Patron of the SDG Run.

The SDG Run’s objectives align with EACOP’s sustainability priorities, including carbon footprint reduction and biodiversity conservation. EACOP has already committed to planting 60,000 trees along the pipeline districts through the ROOTs campaign, with activities underway in Rakai District. Additional environmental efforts include the donation of 12,600 seedlings for reforestation at Sir Samuel Baker School in Gulu and the drilling of 16 boreholes across various districts to provide clean water. Beyond environmental conservation, EACOP continues to support community health, clean energy, cultural heritage, and workforce development through job creation and internship opportunities.

As the countdown to the 6th SDG Run begins, EACOP encourages everyone to participate in this meaningful initiative. Together with stakeholders, communities, and partners, EACOP remains steadfast in its mission to achieve sustainable development and ensure a thriving environment for future generations.
