EACOP Engages University Student Leaders
On Friday, November 8th, 2024, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) hosted an event at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, bringing together student leaders from Kyambogo University and Kampala International University. The primary aim of this gathering was to establish a long-term relationship between EACOP and universities throughout the nation.
EACOP’s Deputy Managing Director, John Bosco Habumugisha, kicked off the event by welcoming the students. In his opening remarks, he ephasized the significance of hard work and focus, encouraging the students to remain dedicated to their studies and future careers. His message resonated deeply with the audience, setting the tone for the discussions that followed.
The engagement was structured around EACOP’s stakeholder engagement plan, which promotes transparency and open communication that aims to foster a continuous dialogue with various stakeholders, including institutions, ministries, and agencies.
During the event, EACOP provided students with comprehensive information about the project’s objectives, current initiatives, and the various opportunities available. The forum showcased EACOP’s commitment to sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and economic growth for Uganda. The discussions highlighted the potential benefits of the project for communities along the pipeline route, particularly in terms of job creation, infrastructure development, and skills transfer.
The event culminated in a lively discussion where students voiced their thoughts and questions regarding the project. This interaction not only yielded valuable insights for EACOP but also strengthened the bond between the organization and the student community.
